Andros Townsend predicts whether Spurs will finish in the top four next season

Former Tottenham Hotspur winger, Andros Townsend has revealed that he expects the Lilywhites to once again miss out on the top four next season.

Spurs finished outside the top four for the first time in five seasons last time out and had to make do with a place in the Europa League next season, although they still have three qualification games to negotiate first.

Jose Mourinho will be hoping that his side can make a swift return to the Champions League as he continues to strengthen the squad ahead of his first full season in charge.

Townsend, however, expects his old club to fall just short next season, although he insisted that a couple of good signings can make a difference.

When asked to predict next season’s top four, the Crystal Palace winger told talkSPORT (02/09/20 at 6:45 am): “City, Liverpool, Chelsea and that last place I would give it to Manchester United at the minute.

“But I think Spurs and Arsenal will probably be just slightly behind them, but they can, with a couple of signings, and if Harry Kane is on form, they can break into that top-four.”

When asked who he expects to finish fifth, the 29-year-old said without any hesitation: “Spurs”.

Spurs Web Opinion

As things stand, it is simply too early to be offering up predictions about next season. Clubs have not finished their transfer business yet and we are yet to see how some of the new signings settle into their respective teams. I personally think Chelsea will have a much more difficult season than most people expect them to as it is never easy to integrate many new players into the team at once. While I do not expect anyone to catch Man City and Liverpool, I am quietly confident that we can finish third.
