Managerial merry-go-round is now underway

Ten Hag has become the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season, with Manchester United’s loss against West Ham proving to be the final nail in the coffin for the Dutchman.

History tells us that there will be a lot more sackings to follow over the next couple of months as many Premier League managers look nervously over their shoulders.

However, despite the criticism that Ange Postecoglou has come under, his position at Spurs seems relatively safe for the moment, although the Australian acknowledged that things can change quickly in this profession.

Ange Postecoglou’s confession about job security

The Tottenham boss has pointed out that there is no job security in top-level football management, admitting that he is unlikely to still be sitting in the Spurs hot seat in five years.

However, he insisted that he is not thinking about his own job safety as that will lead to bad decision-making.

Speaking after Ten Hag’s sacking, Postecoglou told Football.London: “I’ve, and it’s easier to say, never worried about job security. I think if you do you’re probably going to end up not doing the role the justice it deserves for yourself more than anything else.

“The reality is there is no job security. I don’t know what job security looks like. What is the average tenure of a manager these days? If you think I’m going to be around for five years that is highly unlikely.

“If you worry about those things and I think you end up chasing your tail a little bit and probably making decisions for the wrong reasons. As I’ve said before, I understand I won’t be here forever but I work as if I will be and I make decisions that will get us to be a successful club. If you deviate from that then the inevitability is the end will probably come sooner than you want.”

Postecoglou likely to be given the rest of the season

Unless things go disastrously for Postecoglou over the next few months, one would expect the Spurs boss to see out the rest of the season at least.

There will still be a belief at the club that the 59-year-old is the right man to take Tottenham to the next level. However, if Spurs finish outside the top five and fail to win a trophy this season, it would be hard for the former Celtic boss to hold onto his job.
