Ange Postecoglou explains what really happened with that Richarlison injury

It looks like Richarlison will not play again for Spurs this season after picking up an injury. Now, Ange Postecoglou has discussed that issue and how it impacted his squad selection today.

Richarlison has had a fine season for Spurs overall, bagging 12 goals and leading the line with high energy pressing and passion.

In that game against Liverpool, the Brazilian made a big impact, registering a goal and an assist shortly after entering the field of play.

However, we will not see Richarlison again this term due to a calf injury that will keep him out of the remaining Spurs fixtures and will also see him miss the Copa America tournament with his country (The Athletic).

Richarlison injury a disappointing one for Postecoglou

With the striker missing today against Burnley, Ange Postecoglou found space on the Spurs bench for Dane Scarlett, who made a brief cameo appearance as a substitute during the win.

Speaking after the game (via Football.London), Postecoglou explained the effect of the Richarlison injury and how he felt his substitutes fared today.

He said: “It was unfortunate. I know I did the press conference yesterday, but it was literally the last kick of the game and I saw him hobble off and I assumed it was nothing serious. Then it didn’t get any better later on in the evening and he was sent for a scan on his calf and I still don’t know the results of that to be honest, but watching him today he was still hobbling about.

“That made it difficult for us. I had to get creative with the set-up, knowing that in the last half hour, we would probably be dominant from a physical perspective because we have been pretty consistently. So having a set-up that at least gave us a chance to take advantage of the chances we had.”

On the changes he made in the game, Postecoglou added: “Dane came on and worked really hard. I thought Rodri [Bentancur] was really good when he came on as well. Radu [Dragusin] did well, so the subs made an impact.”

It’s been a much better season for Richarlison this year, but he’s suffered a lot of injuries that have really hampered his progress, too. Hopefully, he can put all that behind him after this latest setback.
