Ange Postecoglou gives a blunt reaction to Bentancur’s touchline tantrum

Ange Postecoglou has said that he was pleased with his player’s performance and application against Manchester City but insisted that he does not care about Rodrigo Bentancur’s angry response to being substituted.

Tottenham certainly gave City a massive scare on Tuesday, with Pep Guardiola looking extremely concerned on the touchline for much of the encounter.

However, the home side did not take their chances while the Premier League champions were ruthless in the final third. Postecoglou acknowledged that Tottenham’s inability to make their big moments count ultimately cost them.

The Spurs head coach told Football.London: “Disappointed to lose. I thought it was a tight game. Big moments for both teams which they capitalised on and we didn’t. That sort of brought the outcome that happened. So disappointed to lose.

“Like I said it was a tight game and they’re a top team. I don’t think they dominated us at any point. Probably towards the end, we opened up a bit to try to equalise but up until the first goal we were well in the game and in some areas I thought we were dominant.

“Ultimately if you want to win those games you’ve got to take the big moments. You’ve got to be disciplined and it’s fair to say it’s one of the areas we have let ourselves down in all year. Not capitalising on big moments and lacking in discipline.”

Postecoglou doesn’t care about Bentancur’s outburst

Postecoglou decided to take Bentancur off and bring on Dejan Kulusevski on 55 minutes as the home side were going in search of an equaliser after Erling Halland had put City in front at the start of the second period.

The Urugrawan was certainly not pleased about the decision to take him off as he kicked the seats on the substitutes’ bench repeatedly before throwing his water bottle to the ground in rage.

When asked what he thought of Bentancur’s reaction, Postecoglou simply said: “I didn’t notice. Don’t care.”

Frustrations can sometimes get the better of people. One can understand why Bentnacur would have been unhappy as he had been playing well until that point. The midfielder’s reaction shows that he cares and is keen to get back to his best.
