Ange Postecoglou makes confident claim about Tottenham winning Europa League

Ange Postecoglou has backed Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of Europa League glory despite a tough season, as the Lilywhites look to end their long trophy drought.

Tottenham Hotspur’s season has been nothing short of disappointing, with Spurs languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

However, there remains a glimmer of hope for silverware, as they find themselves in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

With Tottenham’s key players returning to full fitness, Postecoglou and his coaching staff will be feeling optimistic about their chances of making a real push in Europe.

Ange Postecoglou remains confident despite Spurs struggles

At the start of the season, Ange Postecoglou made a bold claim that he typically wins silverware in his second season at a club.

Now, with Spurs still in European competition, the Australian will be eager to prove himself right.

Tottenham’s form in recent weeks has been erratic, making their chances of winning a trophy seem unlikely. However, Postecoglou believes his team are in a much better place than before and could still deliver on his promise.

Speaking to Optus Sport, he said: “I think we’d be silly— we’re in the quarter-finals. It’s an opportunity, absolutely.

“Where we’re at the moment, obviously our league season hasn’t been great, but in Europe and in the Carabao Cup, even in the FA Cup, we’ve performed really well when we needed to on the big occasions.

“And with everyone coming back now, like you said, we’re in a much healthier position. It’s a great opportunity, and it’s not like this football club is always in semis or quarters of European competition.

“That hasn’t been the case in recent years, so we’re in a quarter-final— one of eight— it’s a massive opportunity.”

He added: “Whether I had won things in my second year or not, I wouldn’t dismiss it just because it’s not something that’s happened before. You know what? We’re in it.

“We’re a chance. We’re one of eight clubs. We certainly know that at our best, we’ve proven it this year that we can compete with anyone.

“Knock on wood, at the moment, we’ve got a squad that’s probably as strong as it has been all year. Why not have a massive crack at it? It would be big for us, for obvious reasons— big for the club to win a trophy.

“But I think for this group, like I said, if you can go through what we’ve been through this year and come out the other side of it and have success, it’s a great builder for the future.”

Tottenham face a tough Europa League test against Frankfurt

While Postecoglou remains optimistic, Tottenham will have to navigate a difficult challenge against Eintracht Frankfurt, a side currently sitting third in the Bundesliga and in fine form. Spurs, meanwhile, are struggling domestically in 14th place.

A closer look at their recent form suggests a tight contest. Tottenham have won four of their last five matches, while Frankfurt have secured three victories in the same period, losing twice.

Given Frankfurt’s European pedigree and Spurs’ inconsistency, it will be no easy task when the two sides meet next Thursday.
