Ange Postecoglou makes transfer admission about ‘too big’ Tottenham squad

Ange Postecoglou has admitted that Tottenham squad is too bloated and confirmed that there will be a few departures from the club before the transfer window slams shut.

Soon after Postecoglou took over at Spurs, it was reported that the Australian would have to oversee a mass clear-out this summer, with as many as 10 first-team players being backed to leave the North London club (Telegraph).

However, Tottenham have not had much success in clearing out their deadwood until this point, with Harry Winks’ move to Leicester City being the only exception.

The likes of Davinson Sanchez (90 min), Tanguy Ndombele (Mirror), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Daily Mail), Joe Rodon (Football.London), Ivan Perisic (Daily Mail) and Sergio Reguilon (Fabrizio Romano) have all been linked with moves away from the club this summer, and Postecoglou has now remarked that we will see a number of exits in the weeks left in the transfer window.

However, the Australian did not offer up any names, insisting that he is not involved in the exits.

Postecoglou told Football.London: “Look, I don’t have a fixed number in my head but fair to say our squad is too big at the moment and there are obviously guys who will look for opportunities elsewhere.

“From my perspective, it is not something I am involved in. I will deal with what’s in front of me and I think we’ll see some movement out over the next few weeks. We’ve obviously got a bit of time before the end of the transfer window.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The Kane to Bayern saga has likely taken up a lot of bandwidth over the last few weeks and adversely affected the progress of other transfer dealings (both ins and outs) at Spurs. We should start to see some of the fringe players being offloaded over the coming days and weeks.
