Ange Postecoglou offers promising update on Brennan Johnson injury

Tottenham Hotspur made it two wins in a row with a fairly scrappy win over Nottingham Forest tonight, but Ange Postecoglou saw another of his players come off injured in the game. The Spurs boss has discussed Brennan Johnson’s condition in his post-match interview.

Coming off the back of a slick 4-1 win against Newcastle United last weekend, Spurs were made to work for the three points tonight against a combative Nottingham Forest side.

Tottenham had the majority of possession throughout the game, but were given very little time when they had the ball. However, the pressing approach from Forest did not reap the rewards they hoped.

Richarlison headed home his fourth league goal of the season (Transfermarkt) just before half-time thanks to a beautiful ball by Dejan Kulusevski. In the second half, the Swede would find himself on the scoresheet, punishing Forest keeper Matt Turner for sloppy distribution.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were placed under unnecessary pressure on the stroke of 70 minutes, however, when Yves Bissouma put in a reckless and high challenge to earn a straight red card. The Malian will now miss the next four games for Spurs through suspension.

How bad is Brennan Johnson’s injury?

The Tottenham manager will be hoping there are no more absentees in his squad for the next game, but the sight of Brennan Johnson leaving the field with a bloody head after 30 minutes is not ideal.

Speaking after the game to BBC’s Match of the Day, Postecoglou said: “We should be okay with Brennan, it was a nasty cut and will need some stitches but should hopefully be okay. We have been on fumes for a while, we just have to keep going.”

With Yves Bissouma and Destiny Udogie both missing the next game through suspension, we can ill-afford to lose Brennan Johnson too. Yes, we have players like Bryan Gil who could step in, but Johnson has been hitting his stride of late and it would be a shame to disrupt that.
