Speaking to the press ahead of the weekend’s action, Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has shared his thoughts on Ivan Perisic’s injury.
So far, Ange Postecoglou has managed to be fairly fortunate when it comes to injuries in his new squad at Tottenham. Aside from the odd issue with the likes of Bryan Gil, and of course, the lingering absence of Rodrigo Bentancur, the coach has had a full complement to pick from.
The summer was a period of great transition for the Spurs squad, with plenty of new faces arriving, and just as many heading out the exit door.
One player who many are surprised is still with the club, is Ivan Perisic. The Croatian has remained as part of Postecoglou’s squad, and has actually been involved in all six games so far this season, contributing two assists (Transfermarkt).
Sadly, the 34-year-old will not be playing for quite some time. The club announced earlier this week that Perisic had suffered an ACL injury and would require surgery, with Fabrizio Romano suggesting he could be out for up to six months as a result.
Postecoglou says Spurs will miss Ivan Perisic
In his latest press conference (via Football.London), Postecoglou has commented on the setback and how it will affect the Spurs squad.
He said: “Yeah, disappointing, first of all for Ivan more than anything else. Just one of those innocuous things that can happen in training. I’ve only worked with him for a while but you can see why he’s been at the top for so many years.
“It’s been really disappointing for us as well as because he’s been great for us and we don’t have a lot of experience in the group and he’s a real level head. He’s very strong-willed and I have no doubt that he’ll be back for club and country and stronger than ever.”

Any manager is going to miss someone like Perisic, even if he isn’t a regular starter now. He had made a decent start to the season in this more peripheral role, and could have been very useful throughout the campaign as an experienced head in attack.
