Ange Postecoglou provides update on Heung-min Son’s lingering foot injury

Ange Postecoglou has shed light on Heung-min Son’s latest injury setback and has explained why the South Korean did not travel to Germany to support his teammates in the second leg against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Son’s injury came as a big blow to the Lilywhites ahead of their trip to Deutsche Bank Park, and Tottenham showed tremendous fight to come away with a win without their captain.

It is the latest in a long line of injury setbacks for Ange Postecoglou’s men this season, and the Spurs boss will be hoping that the 32-year-old is back for the crucial semifinal and final clashes to aid the club’s pursuit of their first trophy in 17 seasons.

The only thing that has been made public so far is that Son is suffering from a foot problem, and Postecoglou has now shed light on the forward’s situation.

Ange Postecoglou says Heung-min Son remains out for Tottenham

Tottenham fans will be hoping that it is not a serious injury, as even though Heung-min Son has not lived up to his high standards this season, he is a big-game player who the side relies on to step up in crunch moments.

Postecoglou has now explained that there is no clarity on an expected date of the return for Son, revealing that the forward has been plagued by the issue for a long time.

When asked when the Tottenham Hotspur captain will be back, the Spurs boss said (via Football.London): “Not really sure, it’s something he’s been dealing with for a while, and we got to a point where it wasn’t improving, and it was deteriorating. So, it’s a good time to give him a bit of a rest.”

Postecoglou reveals why Son did not travel to Germany

There has been a lot said and written about the fact that Son stayed in London instead of supporting his teammates at Frankfurt.

Postecoglou has now explained that it was his decision to leave the 32-year-old back at Hotspur Way, explaining that he and the medical staff wanted to give the player every chance of recovering before the semifinals.

When asked about Son staying back in London, the Tottenham boss said: “He was in contact with the boys. We discussed whether he should come along, but I felt that to have the best chance of Sonny being available for the semis, we left him behind.

“He was in the group chats, that’s what they call them, don’t they? I just saw him this morning, I caught him in the corridor and he’s delighted [with the win].”
