Ange Postecoglou reacts to Guglielmo Vicario’s awkward moment with Tottenham fans

Ange Postecoglou has offered support to Guglielmo Vicario after his awkward moment with Tottenham fans.

Following Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 defeat in the first leg of their Europa League tie against AZ Alkmaar, Guglielmo Vicario found himself in an awkward exchange with the travelling Spurs supporters.

The Italian shot-stopper, one of the few players who could hold his head high after the disappointing display, thanks to a string of crucial saves, attempted to rally the 950 away fans.

He walked over, raising his arms passionately, urging them to keep backing the team despite the underwhelming performance.

However, the gesture did not go down well. Instead of appreciation, Vicario and his teammates were met with angry words from the frustrated supporters, who were in no mood for encouragement after a deflating night in Europe.

Ange Postecoglou backs Guglielmo Vicario after heated fan reaction

Looking visibly disappointed by the reaction, Vicario turned away from the group and headed down the tunnel. Guglielmo Vicario has addressed the awkward moment with the Spurs fans, explaining his intentions behind the rallying call.

While fans had every right to voice their frustration, particularly after yet another disappointing showing, Ange Postecoglou has now come out in support of his No.1.

Speaking to football.london, the Spurs boss said: “Vic is very, very passionate about this football club and what we are trying to do here. He wants everyone on board with that.

“If people think there’s a bad bone in his body, then they do not know him like I do. He wants what is best because he cares.”

Tottenham fan frustration is justified

It is obvious Vicario meant well. But let’s be real—demanding support after that kind of performance? That is a tough sell.

Spurs fans have endured a season littered with disappointment, yet they still turn up in numbers, home and away, backing the team.

Support is earned, not demanded. There was nothing in that performance that warranted applause. That being said, staying united is key. Tottenham need to regroup, fix their issues, and come back stronger in the second leg.
