Ange Postecoglou reveals two Spurs stars went into the NLD with injuries

Heung-min Son and James Maddison were the stars of the show for Tottenham Hotspur in a 2-2 draw with Arsenal at the weekend. However, their manager Ange Postecoglou has admitted both players went into the game with minor injuries.

So far this season, Ange Postecoglou has been able to rely on his new captain, Heung-min Son, for goals. The South Korean scored a hattrick against Burnley and then added another two to his tally with a brace against Arsenal.

James Maddison, meanwhile, has been the main provider for the Spurs team this term. The playmaker registered two more assists in the North London derby and showed again just how important he is to this new-look Tottenham team.

The 26-year-old gave Spurs fans a scare at the Emirates Stadium when, in the second half, he went down after a coming together with Jorginho.

Maddison revealed after the game that he had jolted his knee, and it is thought the club will assess the damage with ‘further checks’ (Evening Standard).

Son and Maddison went into NLD with injuries

In a post-match interview with Viaplay, Postecoglou was full of praise for his key players, and revealed he decided to play them despite neither player being fully fit.

He said: “Brilliant. They have that quality, both of them, top players, and aside from his goals I just love the way Sonny worked today, he worked his socks off for the team.

“To be honest neither of them were 100 per cent, both went into it with a couple of niggly injuries, but Sonny is an outstanding leader just by actions more than anything else and then the quality.

“We needed that quality. They understand it’s done against the foundation of everyone working hard together.”

That partnership between Sonny and Maddison is looking like it will be very valuable to us this season, and I really hope they’re both able to stay fit. Their attacking play, and their leadership qualities, make them integral to our squad.
