Ange Postecoglou reveals what Spurs will do during their two-week break from football

Premier League fixtures will be on hold for two weeks after this weekend’s games, but Ange Postecoglou has a plan to keep his squad sharp. Instead of arranging any friendlies, the Tottenham squad will train throughout the period.

Next up for Spurs is a trip to St. James’ Park to face a rejuvenated Newcastle United side. The Magpies are unbeaten in three Premier League games and are chasing down European qualification after a tough campaign.

The Lilywhites have built up some decent momentum in recent weeks, too. Wins over Luton Town and Nottingham Forest have sandwiched a tight draw with West Ham in midweek last week, and Ange Postecoglou‘s men are now back in fourth place with a game in hand on Aston Villa.

Unfortunately, Spurs will have a fortnight to wait for their next fixture after the Newcastle game, with a North London derby against Arsenal on the horizon on April 28th.

What are the Spurs squad doing in the two-week break?

When asked in his latest press conference what he plans to do with the squad in that break period, Postecoglou insisted regular training will be more useful than any friendly matches.

He said (via Football.London): “We’ll probably just keep it in-house. We’ll train right through. We feel that we get better output when we use the group and push the group as a whole. At this stage, the plan is to train through and get ready for the run-in.”

I think this is the best way to go. With the Arsenal game coming up, we cannot afford any injuries, and as long as the players are training adequately, they should be more than sharp enough for the big game. Plus, we know they’re not going to struggle with motivation for that derby, either.
