Ange Postecoglou says injured Tottenham player has a chance to return vs Bournemouth

Ange Postecoglou has revealed Ben Davies’ return date ahead of Tottenham’s weekend clash against Bournemouth.

In the last couple of weeks, Spurs have been handed a major boost on the injury front. Last month was particularly significant as Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Wilson Odobert, and Brennan Johnson all returned to full fitness.

Their reintegration into the squad has strengthened Tottenham and added much-needed depth to a side that had been stretched thin.

Thursday night’s clash against AZ Alkmaar saw further positive developments, with Cristian Romero making the bench for the first time since December, while Micky van de Ven was also named in the squad for the first time since Spurs’ final Europa League phase tie against Elfsborg.

Ange Postecoglou provides update on Ben Davies’ return

While the main defensive pairing made their return, Davies was a notable absentee. The Tottenham centre-back has not featured since the tie against Brentford. There had been some expectation that he would be available against Alkmaar.

However, that was not the case, and now Postecoglou has offered further clarity on his situation. When asked if Davies would be fit for Sunday, he told football.london: “We’re not really sure. He’s training at the moment, so we will see how he feels.

“He’s definitely progressed and he feels good, so let’s see how he goes in the next 24-48 hours. He’s a chance, but we’ll see how he goes.”

Tottenham are edging closer to full fitness

Tottenham are steadily nearing full strength, with Radu Dragusin the only long-term absentee after suffering an ACL injury in the tie against Elfsborg.

Dejan Kulusevski remains sidelined with a foot injury, and the Swede was a huge miss for Tottenham creatively against Alkmaar. Fortunately, Ange Postecoglou has suggested Kulusevski could be back after the international break.

Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke, who returned against Alkmaar and came off the bench in the 72nd minute, later picked up a knock.

Ange Postecoglou has since provided an update on Solanke’s sore injury, though the extent of the issue remains unclear.

The hope is that Davies will feature against Bournemouth, even if only for a brief cameo, to improve his chances of being an option for Thursday’s return leg against AZ.
