Ange Postecoglou takes blame for huge Spurs problem this season

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered yet another disappointing defeat against previously winless opposition with the loss against Ipswich Town this afternoon, and Ange Postecoglou has taken full responsibility for a worrying pattern his team are exhibiting.

Spus are handing out wins to opposition

The defeat to Ipswich on Sunday afternoon sees Tottenham maintain a pretty frustrating record of helping teams end their streak of losing games this season.

Spurs previously visited Selhurst Park last month with Crystal Palace failing to win their opening eight matches, and ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat.

Now, Ange Postecoglou’s side have helped Ipswich end their miserable run, with the Tractor Boys leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a 2-1 win.

Goals from Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap in the first-half were enough for the newly-promoted team, while Rodrigo Bentancur’s header gave Spurs hope and nothing else in the second-half.

What is going wrong with Tottenham Hotspur?

So, what is the problem for Spurs against these kinds of teams in these kinds of games? Postecoglou spoke to the press (via Football.London) after the game, and admitted the passive displays his team are putting out are down to him to resolve.

He said: “That’s down to me. That’s my responsibility. The inconsistency we’re having this year, ultimately it comes down to me and my approach and something I need to try and fix and see if I can help the players in that area.”

Spurs performance cannot be buried in international break

After that Crystal Palace defeat, Ange Postecoglou spoke about the way he would deal with it given the players were all heading off for international duty, and he’s in that position once more.

Whether there is any correlation between the timing of these games and the performances we put in against teams lower in the league is unclear, but Postecoglou now has a hell of a job on his hands to get the players to sort this out before the next game against Man City.
