Micah Richards and Alan Shearer have given their verdict on what might happen if Ange Postecoglou wins the Europa League with Tottenham this season.
Ange Postecoglou is a man with a lot to prove at Tottenham Hotspur, especially after boldly claiming earlier this campaign that he always wins silverware in his second season.
Indeed, the opportunity for the Australian to deliver silverware still stands, as Tottenham are currently in the semi-final of the Europa League.
The Lilywhites are close to booking a place in the final, after securing a 3-1 win over Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their semi-final tie.
A lot has been said about Postecoglou’s future, with many outlets stating that Postecoglou’s fate is sealed, even if he wins the Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou backed to leave Tottenham even if Europa League is won
An all-English final is very much on the cards, after Manchester United put themselves in pole position, having beaten Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in the first leg of the semi-finals at San Mames.
Postecoglou would back himself to win should Tottenham face Manchester United, after his side has already beaten the Red Devils three times this season.
But what will Postecoglou do if he gets his hands on the Europa League trophy? Micah Richards and Alan Shearer have had their say.
Both pundits think that Postecoglou could win the trophy, deliver on his second-season trophy claim and then immediately walk away from the job.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Richards said: “Imagine Ange, though. Imagine Ange. He always says, ‘I always win a trophy in my second season.’
“I can just imagine him at the end, thinking at the end, ‘all right, what are you saying now?’, and just like leaving. It could be chaos!”
Shearer replied: “Yeah, I agree with that thinking, because he has always said that. And I mean, there are such strong reports, are they not, that even if he wins it, then he could be off anyway.
“But for him, if he does win it, and then he just walks off, says, ‘thanks guys, see you later’, big payoff, good for him!”
Spurs’ performances show why Europa League success may not secure Ange Postecoglou’s job
Ange Postecoglou walking away from the Spurs job after delivering silverware is not far-fetched, with Tottenham currently sitting in the bottom five of the Premier League table.
While winning a cup competition is a great achievement, a team’s progress is better judged based on their league performances – it takes a consistent team to perform well in the league.
That consistency has been lacking at Tottenham this season, and we have seen things bubble over between the manager and the fans. There have even been chants calling for Mauricio Pochettino to return to the Tottenham dugout.
Indeed, winning a trophy would make Postecoglou a hero, but it does feel inevitable that he would get sacked the next season when results begin to falter again.
Erik ten Hag’s time at Manchester United is a good example, which is why we believe it would be best for both parties to part ways mutually should Postecoglou win the Europa League.
