Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs play out 1-1 draw in behind-closed-doors friendly

The Evening Standard have revealed that Tottenham kicked off the Ange Postecoglou era with a behind-closed-doors friendly against Cambridge United at Hotspur Way on Tuesday, with the game ending with a 1-1 draw.

With the majority of Spurs’ international stars, including the likes of Harry Kane, only having returned for pre-season training today, the friendly was played by a skeletal first-team squad.

The Evening Standard state that as many as 12 Under-21 players featured in the game, with Dane Scarlett netting the equaliser for the Lilywhites after the away side took the lead.

Spurs draw 1-1 with Cambridge United

Postecoglou will now get the chance to work with a full squad of players over the next couple of days before the squad flies out to Australia on Friday ahead of their clash against West Ham United in Perth on 18 July.

Spurs are scheduled to face Leicester City in Thailand and were due to take on Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma in Singapore, only for them to be replaced by local side Lion City Sailors.

Ange Postecoglou’s men will take on Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 6th and will round off their pre-season plans with a trip to Barcelona to play the Catalan giants in the Joan Gamper Trophy

Spurs Web Opinion

It is a shame that Postecoglou only has a matter of days to work with the returning first-team stars before the team flies out to Australia and take to the field at Perth.

We might not see the team start to fully take shape until the final couple of friendlies, with the international stars likely needing a couple of weeks to understand what the new Spurs boss expects of them.
