“Announce Champions League title” – Some Spurs fans react after club confirm new signing

Tottenham Hotspur finally have their first signing of the Jose Mourinho reign, as Gedson Fernandes officially joins from Portuguese club Benfica and will wear the number 30 shirt.

It has been reported that the 21-year-old will join on a loan basis which will run for the next 18 months until the summer of 2021 (Sky Sports).

Spurs then apparently have the option of whether to send him back to Benfica or pay £56m to take him on a permanent deal. Either way, Spurs will still have to pay Benfica a loan fee.

Fernandes is a highly-rated Portuguese talent who already has two senior caps for his country, as well as 23 games under his belt for the Benfica first-team (Wikipedia).

This is a welcome signing for Spurs fans and Mourinho, as first-choice centre-mid Moussa Sissoko was recently ruled out until April after undergoing surgery on his knee.
