Antonio Conte admits he feels ‘great affection’ for Spurs-linked PL star

Antonio Conte has now responded to Romelu Lukaku’s comments about him last week, with the Tottenham head coach admitting he has ‘great affection’ for the Chelsea striker.

Conte got the best out of Lukaku at Inter Milan over the last two seasons, with the Belgian firing the Nerrazuri to the Serie A title last campaign. However, Lukaku has struggled to replicate the same form since his return to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

This week, the centre-forward gave an explosive interview, in which he admitted that he is unhappy with the system Thomas Tuchel is employing at Chelsea, adding that he wished to return to Inter during his prime years as a player.

The Chelsea star also admitted that he was left extremely disappointed when Conte left the Nerrazuri during the summer.

Since the interview, some sources from Italy have suggested that Lukaku could reunite with Conte in North London during the summer transfer window. However, Conte has now seemingly played down that speculation.

When asked about the striker’s comments, the Tottenham boss told talkSPORT: “Lukaku words? I feel great affection for him but he’s Chelsea player.”

I do not think there is any chance of Spurs pursuing Lukaku and I doubt Chelsea would sell him to us. However, I have to admit that I am quite enjoying the chaos that the Belgian has created at Stamford Bridge, just a mere few months after they spent big money on him.
