Antonio Conte was asked in his press conference this afternoon whether he is prepared to stay at Tottenham Hotspur for the long term amidst the club’s transition.
The Italian has almost been in the Spurs hot seat for a full year after replacing Nuno Espirito Santo part-way through the 2021/22 campaign.
Although the Lilywhites are in somewhat of a dip following defeats to Man United and Newcastle, there has been steady progress since Conte took the helm. Spurs went from ninth to fourth last season and are currently sat third in the Premier League table.
However, Conte has reiterated recently that Tottenham are going through a process and need multiple transfer windows in order to catch up to the giants of English football (Football London).
Asked whether he is prepared to stay at Spurs for multiple years to see the process through, Conte instead chose to deflect, merely stating he will speak to the club when the time is right.
He said (Football London): “This is a topic that we go to face with the club the right moment. I think in this moment we have to be concentrated on the present and to try to do our best.
“This season will be much more difficult than last season because after the transfer market you have seen many teams have improved a lot. You have to face a lot of big, big team.
“For sure it will be the time to speak with the club at the right time to understand which is the best solution for us.”
When asked whether Tottenham are still in transition, Conte added: “I repeat now is not the right moment to answer.
“For sure since November and after one year I understood a lot of things that in the first moment for me was really difficult to understand.
“Now I am going into Tottenham world and which is our situation, which is our position and which is our starting point and how long is the path that we do to be competitive and fight for something important.
“Now for sure my knowledge about Tottenham I have more and is more complete. For this reason I will be prepared to speak to the club for which is the best for the future, but now we need to be focused on the present because we want to do the best on the present.
“My desire and my players is to do everything to give satification to our fans.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
Nothing has changed in my mind. I still hear a manager who is willing to stay for a couple more years but only if Tottenham promise to give him the funds to 100% fight for a title. Anything short of that, and I don’t think he will be interested.
