Antonio Conte hails performance of Spurs star ‘with and without the ball’

Antonio Conte has hailed Lucas Moura’s performance against Norwich, insisting that the Brazilian has the ability to score more regularly.

Moura scored in Conte’s first game in charge of Tottenham during the 3-2 win over NS Mura in the Europa Conference League.

However, the forward had not found the back of the net in the Premier League for nine months before yesterday.

The goal was certainly worth the wait as Moura produced a moment of magic to leave three Norwich players for dead and played a quick exchange with Son Heung-min before producing a brilliant effort that gave Tim Krul no chance of saving.

The former Paris Saint-Germain winger looked threatening every single time he got on the ball, with the Norwich midfield and backline struggling to cope with his mazy runs.

Conte admitted that he was impressed with Moura’s display both in and out of possession, and backed him to continue finding the back of the net with regularity.

When asked about Moura’s goal, the Spurs boss told Football.London: “I think he scored an amazing goal but he has the quality to score more goals and he has to score more goals in the rest of the season.

“We need this type of situation. He’s very good, I think in front we have great quality with important strikers.

“Lucas has great quality and surely my expectation is to see much more goals like this, but good performance with and without the ball.”

When Conte arrived at Spurs, I expected him to use a 3-5-2 and potentially fit in one of Lo Celso, Ndombele or Dele into the side in midfield alongside Hojbjerg and Skipp, with Kane and Son upfront.

However, the fact that he has persisted with a 3-4-3 shows that the Italian has a lot of faith in Moura. The Brazilian certainly deserves to keep his place in the side on the evidence of his recent displays.
