‘Antonio Conte is convinced’ – Fabrizio Romano on why Spurs want Amrabat

Fabrizio Romano has told Matt Hayes’ YouTube channel that Antonio Conte is convinced about Sofyan Amrabat amidst rumoured Tottenham interest.

Sky Sport Italia reported this week that Tottenham had identified Amrabat as a potential midfield reinforcement, should record-signing Tanguy Ndombele leave in January.

Viola News then claimed that Spurs had come to an agreement with Fiorentina to sign the midfield enforcer on a loan deal with an option to buy in the summer.

Romano has claimed that Amrabat is the top choice midfield target for Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte, but only once Spurs complete some outgoings, such as Ndombele.

The Italian also commented that Amrabat was one of the best midfielders in Serie A during his time with Verona, but has fallen out of favour at Fiorentina due to a change in manager.

As such, Conte sees this as a good opportunity to secure a player who is perfect for his ideas and perfect for the Premier League.

Romano said (03:12 onwards): “The feeling I have is that Tottenham are getting closer to signing Sofyan Amrabat. Let’s see in the coming hours what happens.

“As I said on Sunday, they opened negotiations, they opened talks with people close to Amrabat and Fiorentina – they have a good relationship with Fiorentina – Paratici and the Fiorentina board.

“So this is why they are prepared to do this proposal for Sofyan Amrabat, once they complete some outgoings.

“So let’s see what happens with Ndombele in the coming hours, but that is the plan. Once they complete some outgoings, they are ready to go for Amrabat as a midfielder.

“He’s, in this moment, the main option because Antonio Conte is convinced this is an important player, perfect for his ideas and perfect for the Premier League – same for Fabio Paratici.

“We are talking about a player that maybe you can go on transfer market and see he is not a starter for Fiorentina, but this player with Verona was one of the best players, one of the best midfielders we had in Serie A a few years ago.

“With Fiorentina, they changed his manager and this is why the situation changes, because the manager is playing completely different football, but Amrabat is kind of the perfect player for Conte and this is why they want to go for him.”

Romano also revealed in a tweet that the deal would be a loan with a buy option of €16m, with Amrabat being keen on the transfer.

Spurs Web Opinion:

This will not get many Spurs fans excited, however, Conte and Paratici know the Italian market a lot better than us. This is clearly the type of midfielder they are after and, in the January market, options are few and far between. Hopefully, Spurs get it done.
