Antonio Conte issues positive injury updates on Sessegnon, Dier and Romero

Antonio Conte has issued positive injury updates on Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon and Cristian Romero ahead of Tottenham’s FA Cup third-round tie against Morecambe.

Spurs are set to welcome the League One side to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon while carrying a handful of injury concerns.

Sessegnon, 21, has not featured for Spurs since putting in an excellent display in the draw against Liverpool last month, while Dier missed the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg defeat to Chelsea in midweek through illness.

However, Conte has since confirmed that the pair are set to be available again and could return to the fold against Morecambe this weekend.

He told the club’s official website: “Ryan is okay, and available for the game on Sunday. For sure, this could be a good opportunity to see him again. That’s good news for us.

“Eric Dier had a training session with us today. That’s more good news. He missed Chelsea because he was ill. Today, he had a training session, and he’s available for the game on Sunday.”

Meanwhile, Romero is stepping up his progress after suffering a hamstring injury on international duty with Argentina in November.

The 23-year-old has missed Spurs’ last 10 games in all competitions. Conte has revealed that he is ‘improving a lot’ but reiterated the need for patience as he continues his recovery.

He added: “Cristian is improving a lot. Now, we are trying to bring him to a good [level of] fitness. He’s working a lot with our physical coach.

“We need a bit of patience, it was a big injury, but now he’s working very well. He will be very important when he’s okay again physically.”

Spurs always suffer a period where injuries seem to decimate the squad, but it is good that the likes of Dier and Sessegnon are back and available. Romero’s setback was obviously a big one, so that needs to be managed carefully.
