Antonio Conte was full of kind words for Richarlison following his Tottenham debut in pre-season against Team K-League today.
In his post-match press conference, Conte revealed that he saw plenty of positives from his new big-money signing out in the South Korean heat.
The Italian claimed he liked Richarlison’s ability to play three positions, his physical strength, his personality, his character, his quality, his ability to protect the ball and his knack for attacking space.
The Brazilian started the match in a number nine role with Lucas Moura and Bryan Gil on either side, before Harry Kane and Heung-min Son joined him in attack in the second half.
In the minutes before Son was substituted on, Richarlison played wide left, then shifted to the right side for the remainder of his game – thus showcasing three roles in his very first game.
While he didn’t get on the scoresheet, despite a couple of chances, the Brazilian certainly impressed his new boss.
Conte said (Football London): “Today I’ve seen a lot of positive things about Richy. The first half he played like a number nine and the second half he played on the right, behind the striker. I think he can play in all these three positions.
“I think he is strong physically and a good personality, good character, good quality. For sure also for Richy in this period, he is working and we are working on the tactical aspects with him because he has to go into our idea.
“At the same time, we have to work on the physical aspects for him to be fit. But for sure he is a player that gives me important positions up front.
“He’s a player that is a good player, strong and very good to protect the ball and attack the space. I’m very happy that we signed him.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I am not Richarlison’s biggest fan, but I do see the draw of a talented player who can line up anywhere across the front line when it comes to rotating a squad throughout a season. If Kane, Son, or Kulusevski got injured, Richarlison could slot into any position.
