Antonio Conte on why Tottenham fans singing his name was ‘too much’

Antonio Conte has thanked the Tottenham Hotspur fans for singing his name during the side’s win over Norwich City but feels he needs to earn the right to deserve that kind of reception.

Spurs recorded their third Premier League win on the bounce with goals from Lucas Moura, Davinson Sanchez and Heung-min Son enough to ease aside the struggling Canaries.

The performance also saw Conte’s men keep a second clean sheet in a row en route to closing the gap to the top four down to just two points.

The Spurs faithful chanted the Italian’s name around all four corners of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium towards the end of the encounter in celebration of what was a much-needed three points in their hope of pushing for a top four finish.

Although the former Inter Milan boss feels grateful to have received such an unwavering amount of support already, he admitted he should have to earn the fans’ faith going forward.

He said (via Football.London): “First of all I want to say thanks to all the fans who sang my name. I’m very happy and enthusiastic for this and I feel a lot of responsibility towards our fans. They trust a lot in my work and to hear my name is good.

“I’ve only just arrived. Only one month and I have this responsibility to deserve this name. I think it’s too much and I want to show in the future to deserve this.”
