Antonio Conte opens up on finally being able to give Harry Kane a rest

Antonio Conte has revealed that he will give Harry Kane a rest this weekend if he has the opportunity as Tottenham face Morecambe in the FA Cup third round.

Kane has already played 26 Tottenham games across all competitions this season, as well as multiple international breaks with England.

Conte revealed that, after playing as many as six games in the last 17 days, Kane deserves a bit of a break this weekend.

With Spurs playing lesser opposition in the FA Cup, squad rotation was always likely, even if Kane is the only senior Tottenham striker currently at the club.

Dane Scarlett represents the only other striker on Spurs’ books who has featured significantly in the first-team this season, although he is still just a teenager.

The case for a weekend of rest only grows once you consider the fact that Tottenham play Chelsea twice, Arsenal and Leicester in January, all of which you would expect Kane to start against.

Conte said (Football London): “Honestly I think Harry played six games in 17 days and I think if I have the possibility, I think that it is right to give him a bit of rest.

“Also after this game before the break of the international team we have four games very difficult games, Chelsea, Arsenal, Leicester and Chelsea again.

“It is always difficult to decide not to start with Harry but at the same time in some games, if we can take risk it is right to take.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Starting Kane against Morecambe would make no sense at all. It is the perfect chance to give some of the fringe players and youth starlets a run out. I expect Dane Scarlett to start the match.
