Antonio Conte praises Tottenham academy starlet who is yet to play for him

Antonio Conte has revealed that Tottenham academy midfielder Harvey White has been improving a lot recently.

White impressed on loan at Portsmouth in the second half of last season but the midfielder has not got any minutes under his belt for the Spurs first-team so far this campaign.

However, the silky left-footer has been impressing for the Under-23s, with five goals and six assists to his name in Premier League 2 so far this campaign (Transfermarkt).

The Evening Standard revealed on their live transfer blog (Jan 31, 13:30) on transfer deadline day that White was subject to interest from a whole host of lower league clubs.

The likes of Hull City, Sunderland, Portsmouth and Luton Town were said to be keen on signing the central midfielder on a loan deal until the end of the season but Spurs chose to hang on to him.

White has been named on the bench regularly by Conte over the last few months and the Spurs boss has now spoken positively about the 20-year-old’s progress when he was asked about Oliver Skipp’s new contract.

Conte told Football.London: “I’m very happy for Skippy because we’re talking about a good player, a young player, a player from the academy and you know very well the importance of this club of developing players from the academy.

“In this squad we have [Japhet] Tanganga, [Dane] Scarlett, Harvey [White] is also improving a lot.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Conte probably decided to keep White around as a precaution as the club decided to let go Dele, Ndombele and Lo Celso in January. I expect the 20-year-old to be loaned out to a Championship club next season and I am excited to see what the midfielder can produce at that level.
