Antonio Conte provides update after undergoing surgery earlier today

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has provided an update on his Instagram story after he underwent surgery earlier today.

Spurs revealed in a statement this morning that the 53-year-old Italian was diagnosed with cholecystitis, an inflammation of the gallbladder, after becoming “unwell with severe abdominal pain”.

Conte revealed on the social media platform that he is already starting to feel better following the operation and is now looking forward to getting back to work after his recuperation ends.

It is unclear at this stage when Conte may be able to return to coaching duties, with assistant manager Cristian Stellini the likely candidate to step in for his compatriot, just like he did when the manager was suspended from involvement in the Champions League tie in Marseille last year.

Tottenham are back in Premier League action on Sunday when they host Manchester City in north London and also have an important Champions League round of sixteen first leg fixture away to AC Milan later this month.

Conte’s statement read: Thank you for your lovely messages, my surgery has gone well and I’m already feeling better. Now’s time to recover, I can’t wait to get back on the field with the team.”
