Antonio Conte reacts to Oliver Skipp’s new contract and long-term injury

Antonio Conte has expressed his delight at Oliver Skipp signing a new contract with Tottenham this week, claiming the youngster is not only a good player but also a ‘fantastic guy’.

Unfortunately, the midfielder remains out with a lingering groin injury, which Conte acknowledged in his press conference, revealing that he understands Skipp’s ‘frustration’.

However, the Italian manager was keen to point out how Skipp’s new contract shows how much they trust him, and how important they think he is to the future of Tottenham.

Skipp has appeared 28 times in all competitions for Spurs so far this season, with the midfielder shining both under Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte. However, he has missed the last 12 Premier League matches through injury (TransferMarkt).

Conte said (Football London): “I’m very happy for Skippy because we are talking about a good player, a young player from an academy.

“We know very well a player who has developed. He’s not only a good player, we are talking about a fantastic guy.

“He’s having a bit of problem with his injury. I know his frustration. I think his new contract shows we trust him a lot. He’ll be very important for the present and future of Tottenham.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Tottenham have been patchy with bringing players through the academy in recent years, but Oliver Skipp is a shining example. The more I watch him play, the more I am convinced he is going to become an important player for this football club.
