Antonio Conte reveals injury blow for Heung-min Son

Antonio Conte has revealed that Heung-min Son picked up an injury following Wednesday evening’s Carabao Cup defeat at Chelsea.

The South Korean was brought off in the 79th minute of the semi-final first leg with Giovani Lo Celso taking his place while his side were already 2-0 down.

The Italian admitted that Son was initially fine after coming off the field at Stamford Bridge and the injury was not the reason for his exit, but instead, on Thursday felt pain in his leg and underwent a scan.

Conte suggested that Son may not be able to train until the start of the international break which takes place at the end of the month.

Which games is Son likely to miss this month?

Morecambe (H) – FA Cup – 9 Jan
Chelsea (H) – Carabao Cup – 12 Jan
Arsenal (H) – Premier League – 16 Jan
Leicester (A) – Premier League – 19 Jan
Chelsea (A) – Premier League – 23 Jan

He told Football.London: “It was a strange situation. Against Chelsea I made two substitutions together, Lucas Moura and Son. Not for injury, their sub, but to try to give them 15 minutes of rest.

‘The day after Son felt a bit of pain in his muscle, in his leg and he had a scan. Now we have to make the right evaluations from the doctors. He’s an injury. I don’t know but probably they could stay without training session until the end of this cycle, before the international break.”

If Son is indeed set to be out for the remainder of the month, it just adds extra pressure to Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici to delve into the transfer market and land someone of the calibre of Dusan Vlahovic. We simply cannot solely rely on Harry Kane to remain injury-free and score week in, week out.
