Antonio Conte reveals two Spurs players will miss the rest of the season

Antonio Conte has revealed that Cristian Romero and Sergio Reguilon both be absent for Tottenham’s final two matches of the season against Burnley or Norwich City.

Reguilon had missed Tottenham’s previous two clashes against Leicester and Liverpool with a groin injury, and the Spaniard did not recover in time for the North London derby.

However, Romero’s absence from the matchday squad came as a much bigger shock, with Davinson Sanchez replacing the Argentine in the starting eleven.

The former Atalanta man has been in excellent form over recent months and Spurs fans would have been left worried by his absence but Sanchez proved that he is an able deputy, putting in a solid display in Tottenham’s 3-0 win.

The former Ajax man will have to step in again against Burnley and Norwich, with Conte confirming that Romero does not have enough time to recover from the hip injury he picked up against Liverpool.

Conte told Football.London: “Sergio [Reguilon] is out and not available for the rest of the season as there are ten days left. It’s the same also for Cuti Romero, he’s not available because he received a hit on his hip at the end of the game versus Liverpool.”

When asked if there are any new injuries following the derby win, the Italian responded: “I hope not but after Liverpool, we thought we had no injuries, but we understood in the last few days that Romero had a serious injury and has finished this season, because there are only two games to go and he has no time to recover for these two games.”

I thought Sanchez did well for a player who has not started a single match for the last few months. He did appear nervous in the first ten minutes of the game but became more confident as the match went on.

Now that the North London derby is out of the way, one would hope that our backline will not be tested too much against Burnley and Norwich.
