Antonio Conte singles out player who did not feature against West Ham for special praise

Antonio Conte has praised the improvement of talented young striker Dane Scarlett and has urged him to have patience in making his mark in the first-team.

The 17-year-old has been in and around the senior side since last season, where he became the youngest player to represent Spurs in the Premier League at just the age of 16 (GOAL).

He has remained in the squad more often than not this term, but has been limited to just three minutes of action in the form of a cameo appearance in Tottenham’s 4-0 win at Leeds last month (Transfermarkt).

Scarlett was again named in the match-day squad for Spurs’ crucial 3-1 win over West Ham, which has kept the side firmly in the hunt for a Champions League place come the end of the season.

And while he may not be receiving the game time he would have been hoping for, Conte has reiterated he has seen plenty of improvement from the England U19 international, while also calling for him to bide his time for his big break.

He said (via Football.London): “I’m seeing a lot of improvement today in Scarlett honestly if I have to tell you. Seeing that this guy is improving a lot, he’s only 17-years-old but I can tell you that he is a really important prospect for Tottenham.

“He has to be patient and work behind these very important players and continue to work in this way because about Scarlett, I can tell you that I see a brilliant future for him.”

The fact that Scarlett has been in and around the first-team squad at this stage of his career is already a big positive and he will no doubt be taking that going forward.

At just 17, he has been exposed to this environment to make it easier for him and training with Harry Kane regularly should be a huge step in his development.
