Antonio Nusa opens up on his future as rumours of a Tottenham transfer continue

Antonio Nusa came very close to a move to the Premier League in January, and there is still thought to be interest there from Tottenham Hotspur. Now, the youngster has been talking about that failed switch, and whether he will be moving on in the summer.

Were it not for a knee injury, it’s very likely Antonio Nusa would be a Brentford player right now. Despite very public interest from Tottenham in the January transfer window, it was the Bees who stole a march on negotiations and had personal terms agreed with the 18-year-old.

That proposal fell through after a medical assessment reportedly revealed issues with Nusa’s back and knee, causing Brentford to call the deal off (Ben Jacobs).

According to Voetbalkrant, Tottenham have maintained an interest in the Norwegian star and are already working on bringing Nusa to the Premier League in the summer.

Antonio Nusa wanted to stay at Club Brugge

The player himself has now been discussing the whole situation, reflecting on what could have been in January, and what might happen in the coming months.

He told Het Laatste Nieuws: “First and foremost, I had always intended to stay here until the summer. That also makes it much easier today. Suddenly a lot started to move. I spoke a few times with Brentford, including the coach, and was very excited. In the end, it didn’t happen – it’s things you can’t control.”

On the injury that caused all the problems, he added: “All I can say is that I am 100% fit and never had any problems with that knee. In the end, it also became clear that there was no problem.”

And, on the future, he said: “I’m trying to do my job now. And I told my brokers that I don’t want to make a choice at the moment. Or can’t make one. I really can’t say what will happen. This season I had to miss a lot of matches. Now I want to play as much as possible. I can’t rule out staying here, but I also can’t rule out leaving. At the moment everything is open.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would still like to see us making a move for Nusa. I know he essentially rejected us in January, but he did it for good reason — there’s nothing wrong with a young player wanting to get as much first-team action as possible. As long as his injury issues are behind him, we should definitely keep monitoring Nusa.
