Fabrizio Romano has told the Last Word On Spurs podcast that Adama Traore could still join Tottenham Hotspur before the transfer deadline on Tuesday as the winger ‘has always been the priority’.

The journalist stated that the deal is ‘complicated’ but added that he ‘can’t say it is impossible because of how Paratici works’.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Spurs this window. A recent report from Cadena SER stated that Traore himself is very keen on the potential move which would see him link up with his previous manager.

Tottenham have already offered a £5m loan with an option to buy but Wolves have rejected it and they value the 25-year-old at £40m. Spurs were also said to be keen on a loan with an obligation to buy for £40m next summer.

Despite this, Romano stated that the deal is not off yet: “They wanted to start with a loan with a buy option with a big loan fee, but from Wolves, it was a no.

“Then they were looking for an obligation under certain conditions, but also in this case it was a no.

“It was really complicated, and now also with Harry Kane staying, they don’t have crazy funds because they are keeping Harry Kane at the club. It is not easy, but he has always been the priority, he has always been the priority on the list.

“Madueke has signed a new contract with PSV, so no chance of Tottenham. So I can’t say that it is impossible now and it is off because I know how Paratici works and till the last minute anything could happen.

“He has always been the priority, so as of now it is complicated but we will see in the coming days.”

SpursWeb Opinion

Time is ticking. We know what Wolves want for the player and we have to meet it otherwise there is no point messing about. The potential transfer has divided opinion but personally, I think he would be a fine addition to the squad.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Fine addition to the squad? The man is a hulking beast that terrifies defenders everywhere. He wouldn’t JUST be a fine addition to the squad, I think he is our only chance of getting in to a Champion’s League spot next season. Let me explain why:-
Dembele is really our only box to box player we have, (Lo Celso has done it in the past but not with any regularity) Dembele though is a no show, and is unlikely to stop throwing his toys out of his pram because he doesn’t like the way Aurier and Sissoko have been treated.
In Europe especially we need to play our fringe players to keep the top players at full strength for the league.
I could go on and on about how much we desperately need him, but i accept we are unlikely to be able to afford him given that we have managed to keep hold of H

  2. Was Nuno’s top ask. So maybe Levy will allow Paratici to pony up the cash. Is a risky signing as Adama may not be worth it…but the 2 chances he created vs ManU would have been 2 goals fpr Son and Kane in a Spurs set up…so maybe we should not extrapolate the lack of end deliverable in form of G+A for Adama. But low confidence on this one as Wolves seem to have dug in (like Levy on Kane) and even if ok will they will have time to get replacement ? Would love to be surprised on last day with Adama, specially as there appears to be no alternative plan to replace Bale & Vinicius.
