‘Anything is possible’ – Tottenham man refuses to rule out PL title challenge

Eric Dier has refused to rule out the prospect of Tottenham Hotspur challenging the likes of Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.

A little over a week ago, several pundits were questioning whether Spurs need to be taken seriously as potential title contenders after the Lilywhites had won eight and drawn two of their first 10 Premier League matches (Sky Sports).

However, the picture now looks completely different after two back-to-back losses to Chelsea and Wolves, with Tottenham’s lack of squad depth being exposed at Molineux.

Many of them changed their tune after the last two results, with Tony Cascarino even claiming a couple of days ago that he expects Aston Villa to qualify for the Champions League ahead of the Lilywhites (The Game Podcast).

Eric Dier is keeping a cool head at Tottenham

Dier, who has been part of two title-challenging sides under Mauricio Pochettino, is not one to get carried away, with the England international pointing out that there is still a lot of football to be played this season.

When asked about a title challenge, the centre-back said at a Web Summit in Lisbon (via The Mirror): “We’re still at the start of the season, there is still a long way to go. I am experienced enough to know anything is possible.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Right from the start of the season, Postecoglou and the Tottenham players have been careful not to spell out any particular objective for the season, which is arguably a deliberate strategy.

That ensures that they do not put themselves under any unnecessary pressure while also not putting a limit on their ambitions.
