‘Appreciated’ – Fabrizio Romano provides update on Pierluigi Gollini at Tottenham

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Pierluigi Gollini is loved by all of his Tottenham teammates despite reports suggesting the goalkeeper’s loan spell at the club could be cut short.

Gollini arrived from Atalanta on a season-long loan deal in the summer, with Spurs having the option to sign him permanently for £13m.

The Italian is yet to make a single Premier League appearance for Tottenham and his only start since Antonio Conte’s arrival at the club came in Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League back in November.

The print edition of Italian outlet L’Eco di Bergamo (02/01/2022) claimed that Gollini could return to Atalanta this month and head out on another loan for the remainder of the season.

However, when asked about Gollini’s future, Romano has said to Last Word on Spurs (starting at 13:58) that the goalkeeper is ‘appreciated’ by all of his teammates.

Romano claimed that the 26-year-old has a ‘fantastic’ relationship with everyone at Tottenham and the club are happy with his attitude around the training ground.

However, the journalist added that Gollini’s future is not a priority for Tottenham, explaining that Antonio Conte is not the sort of manager to give a lot of game time to his second choice goalkeeper.

Romano also added that Gollini is already attracting interest from Italian clubs, who are thought to be working on a deal to sign him next summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

It seems extremely unlikely that Spurs would activate the option to sign Gollini permanently at the end of the season. So, even if Lloris signs a new deal (which I expect him to), Tottenham will be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper in the summer as I do not see either Alfie Whiteman or Brandon Austin being promoted to the number two role.
