Archie Gray reveals what Thomas Frank is telling him to do in Tottenham midfield

Tottenham’s Archie Gray has now revealed that Thomas Frank’s instruction to him in the number six role has been straightforward.

Many Spurs fans have welcomed the fact that Gray is now getting regular starts under his belt after being frustrated with the Rodrigo Bentancur-Joao Palhinha double-pivot.

The 19-year-old is still learning the ropes of playing in the middle of the park at Premier League level, having played across the back four last season under Ange Postecoglou.

Gray has been dubbed a future star in the Tottenham midfield by pundits, and the youngster has now revealed what is expected of him at Spurs this season.

Archie Gray reveals he has license in Tottenham midfield role

The Leeds academy graduate has now revealed that Frank has instructed him to look to play forward as much as possible.

The England Under-21 international explained that he has been given the full licence to play his natural game and to get into attacking positions.

When asked what Frank expects of him in midfield, Gray said (via The Daily Mail): “He wants me to play forward as much as possible, that’s the main thing. We’ve got a certain structure, and I’ve got a role in the system. We have two pivots and sometimes I’ll have the licence to get into the box.

“The main message before games is to be positive. Play forward, run forward, be as positive as you can and that’s my natural game. I want to get on the ball and find passes. Running with the ball is probably my main strength.”

Gray admits Spurs are hungry for more trophies

The youngster played a key role in Tottenham’s victorious Europa League campaign, and he admits that the players will never forget the famous night in Bilbao in May.

Gray confessed he and his teammates now want to keep winning more silverware after getting a taste of it last season.

When asked about the Europa League campaign, the midfielder said: “There were so many difficult games, but we stuck to it in the Europa League. And we knew towards the end, when it was the quarters, the semis, we had a chance to make this season unforgettable for the fans and the club.

“It might have not been the best year in the Premier League and other cups but to win a trophy like that outweighs what happens in the bad performances.

“To give the fans a trophy is the most special thing and when you win a trophy as a team, you will always be good friends because you share in that moment and have such a positive memory. For everyone here, winning trophies with Tottenham is our dream. Hopefully, we can keep that going.”
