Argentina reveal whether they are calling up Tottenham’s Romero and Lo Celso

While Giovani Lo Celso has been called up to the Argentina squad ahead of the international break, Cristian Romero has been left out by Lionel Scaloni.

Both Lo Celso and Romero picked up injuries during the last international break back in November.

While Lo Celso recovered relatively quickly, Romero’s hamstring problem proved to be serious, with the centre-back not having featured since.

However, there was a positive update regarding the 23-year-old last week as the defender took to social media to reveal that he is back in training.

Antonio Conte has admitted that he expects the former Atalanta man to be back in action after the international break (Alasdair Gold).

Argentina take on Chile in a World Cup qualifier on January 28 before facing off against Davinson Sanchez’s Colombia on February 2.

Thankfully for Spurs, Romero is not part of the La Albiceleste squad for the two matches, and would thus be able to continue his rehabilitation at Hotspur Way.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect that the main reason Spurs were not overly keen on rushing Romero back to action, was due to fears that he would be called up by Argentina for their upcoming fixtures. If there was not an international break this month, the 23-year-old might have featured against Leicester or in the upcoming clash against Chelsea.
