‘Arrogant and self-indulgent’ – Former-PL owner aims dig at Tottenham pair

Ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has blasted Tottenham Hotspur pair Christian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso for their involvement in the international break controversy.

Jordan labelled not only the two Spurs players but the Aston Villa pair Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia as ‘arrogant and self-indulgent’.

The four South American Premier Players have had a drama-filled week as the quartet were accused of breaking COVID-19 protocols to enter Brazil ahead of a World Cup qualifier (BBC).

Five minutes into the Brazil vs Argentina fixture, Brazilian health authorities stormed on the pitch to confront the four players and the game was cancelled shortly after.

The chaotic scenes have now resulted in Lo Celso and Romero travelling to Croatia to take part in a training camp while they isolate, with the duo expected to be fined by Spurs as the club did not authorise them to travel out.

Jordan had firm words for the quartet, expressing his disgust at all parties for allowing this situation to happen.

He said (talkSPORT – 07/09/21 at 10:15 am): “The clubs should have had more backbone rather than start from a position of ‘we are all going to say no’ to then ‘oh, I am going to be a little mealy-mouthed about it’.

“Now, Tottenham’s situation is slightly different because their players have done precisely want they want and there needs to be consequences. That’s weak on Villa’s part, they have backed down to player power.

“What you have got is an absolute degradation of responsibility from players and a complete and utter disregard for the principles of the countries they are playing in. It’s an absolute mess.

“What it shows you is the immature, arrogant and self-indulgent attitude and think they can do what they want. You cannot fly to a country with a 14-day quarantine and rock onto a football pitch!”

SpursWeb Opinion

Every Spurs fan was hugely disappointed in the duo travelling out with no permission from the club and arguably even worse: the pair thinking they could avoid the rules that every human has to abide by. The chaos in Brazil was an incredible sight but one the pair cannot say it was not their own fault.
