Arsenal and Chelsea determined to succeed where Tottenham failed in race for midfield star

Arsenal and Chelsea have now entered the race to sign one of Tottenham Hotspur’s past summer targets with eight goal contributions this season.

During the summer transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur were desperate to land an attacking midfielder to help bolster Thomas Frank’s midfield.

Spurs were heavily linked with Eberechi Eze, but that deal collapsed after Arsenal moved swiftly to secure his signature.

Nico Paz soon became another target for Tottenham, with reports claiming that Spurs submitted an offer worth €70m (£60.7m) for Paz, which was swiftly rejected by Como.

Arsenal and Chelsea want Tottenham summer target Nico Paz

Simons was eventually signed by Tottenham, with Paz insisting that his focus remains on Como as he aims to take the club to the next level.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal and Chelsea are now among the sides to have set their sights on former Tottenham Hotspur target, Nico Paz.

The Argentine attacking midfielder joined Como from Real Madrid in August 2024 and delivered an impressive debut campaign, scoring six goals and providing nine assists.

This season, he has continued that fine form with four goals and four assists from just seven appearances.

Given his consistent performances, it is hardly surprising that several top European clubs have taken notice, with not only Premier League sides showing interest but also Juventus and Inter Milan reportedly among his admirers.

Spurs and co like Paz but Real Madrid hold all the cards

Spurs could yet reignite their pursuit of Nico Paz, particularly if Xavi Simons makes the left wing position his own this season.

Simons has featured in that position at times this campaign as well as through the middle, but he has failed to truly impress so far.

While Tottenham and others keep tabs on Paz, Mundo Deportivo notes that all interested clubs must remain wary of Real Madrid’s position.

Los Blancos are said to hold a buyback option worth €8m (£6.9m) valid for next summer, along with a significant sell-on clause that could complicate any potential transfer.
