A Tottenham academy youngster, who has impressed for the youth sides over recent seasons, may make a controversial move to Arsenal this summer.

Tottenham’s transfer strategy appears to have shifted under Roberto De Zerbi, with the Lilywhites pursuing established Premier League stars rather than young players with potential.

Some reports have suggested that Spurs may be tempted to cash in on their young talents such as Lucas Bergvall and Mathys Tel, as De Zerbi prefers experience over youth.

However, the Lilywhites may also end up losing a teenager whom they desperately want to keep.

Arsenal looking to poach Tottenham defender Elijah Upson

According to Football Insider, Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit of a Spurs academy defender Elijah Upson, son of former England star Mathew Upson.

While the 18-year-old is yet to make his senior debut for the Lilywhites, he has made a great impression at youth level, having been a mainstay for the U18s over recent years while also featuring for the U19s and U20s last seasoon.

Tottenham have made several attempts to tie down Upson, but the defender has already rejected multiple contract offers from Spurs.

He may now be set to make a shock move across the North London divide when his contract expires next month, with Arsenal showing serious interest in the player.

This could come as North London rival payback, as Tottenham also look set to poach highly-rated Arsenal youngster Kyran Thompson this summer.

Arsenal in pole position despite growing interest in Upson

The report says that the centre-back has a number of offers on the table, with multiple Bundesliga clubs keen to take him to Germany.

However, Arsenal have also made an offer to Upson and the Gunners are now said to be in ‘pole position’ to secure the Spurs academy graduate.

The player’s father made 57 appearances for the Gunners, being part of their title-winning squad in 2001-02, and that connection may potentially give Mikel Arteta’s men an advantage in the transfer race.
