Arsenal director hints it may be ‘too tough’ to sign Tottenham-linked striker

Arsenal’s sporting director Edu has hinted that the Gunners might pull out of the race for rumoured Tottenham target Dusan Vlahovic.

While various reports over the last couple of weeks have suggested that Tottenham are prioritising signing a centre-back, a left-winger and a midfielder in January (Sky Sports), the Lilywhites also continue to be linked with various centre-forwards.

This includes Vlahovic, who has struggled to hit the expected heights since his switch from Fiorentina to Juventus two years ago.

A couple of days ago, TV Play said that Spurs are ‘ready to get serious’ about the 23-year-old, with Postecoglou’s men alleged to see the Serbian as the ‘ideal’ option to fill Harry Kane’s shoes.

The report added that Tottenham were ready to make a ‘mind-boggling’ offer of €80m (£68.6m) for the front-man while offering the player a huge contract worth €15m (£12.8m) per season.

However, Spurs are not the only Premier League side thought to be eyeing Vlahvoic, with Football Transfers reporting two weeks ago that their North London rivals were also plotting a move for the Juve star.

Edu admits that Juventus are tough to deal with

Edu has now seemingly played down Arsenal’s interest in Vlahovic by suggesting that the Bianconeri are very difficult to negotiate with.

When asked about talks with Juventus regarding a deal for the centre-forward, the Gunners director simply said (via Metro): “They (Juve) are too tough with us”.

Tottenham have developed a good relationship with Juventus over the years. Perhaps, the Lilywhites would look to use that to their advantage to beat their fierce rivals to Vlahovic’s signature.
