Paul Merson names the Premier League forward who could make Son even better

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Arsenal legend Paul Merson has claimed that Wolves striker Raul Jimenez could make Son-Heung Min ‘one of the best’ in the league if the Mexican signed for Tottenham.

There has been a lot of talk about Harry Kane’s future this summer, however, Fabrizio Romano reported this week that Spurs have denied rumours about Kane leaving to join City, adding that there is nothing agreed between the two clubs.

The only bid confirmed by Romano was last month’s £100 million offer from Man City, where the Premier League champions were apparently willing to include players to soften the blow before Tottenham rejected the proposal (SkySports).

Raul Jimenez, since signing for the club permanently in 2019 after a season-long loan, has been the star man at Wolves.

In all competitions, he has scored 48 goals and grabbed 18 assists in 110 appearances for the East Midlands club.

However, Jimenez’s 2020/2021 season, unfortunately, came to an abrupt end when he sustained a fractured skull against Arsenal in November after a head collision with David Luiz.

Thankfully, the Mexican has been given the clear to play for the club next season (The Guardian).

Arsenal legend Merson has now claimed that Jimenez is one of the most ‘underrated players in the league’ and explained just how well he would fit in at Spurs.

He said: “I have been following Wolves’ Raul Jimenez for quite some time now and I’m shocked that the big six have not made a note of his abilities.

“With Nuno Espirito Santo now in North London, Spurs may well have an alternative to Harry Kane this season. With the England captain possibly on his way out, Santo will need to sign a replacement and Raul Jimenez suits the role to perfection.

“The centre-forward could also bring the best out of Heung-Min Son and make him look like one of the best in the Premier League.

“Raul Jimenez’s involvement with the Mexico national team could deny him a move to a big club, however, given that the travel and time difference could complicate matters pertaining to his Premier League ambitions.

“I cannot possibly think of another reason why he has not been signed by a bigger club – Raul Jimenez is one of the best strikers on offer at the moment and is the most underrated player in the Premier League.”

Jiminez is a class act; it was such a shame his horrific injury had to stall his career. Without it, a lot of ‘big six clubs’ would be circling around his signature.

As a Kane replacement, he has similar qualities. The Mexican drops into pockets well and links up play in impressive fashion. And if he recovers from the head injury well there is no reason why he can’t play in the upper echelons of Europe.
