Arsenal legend claims Spurs star has issued a ‘come and get me’ plea

Paul Merson has claimed that Harry Kane has alerted his potential suitors with his recent comments about wanting to win trophies.

Tottenham’s long wait for silverware is set to continue for at least another year after they ended up on the losing side in yet another cup final two weeks ago.

The 1-0 loss to Manchester City has caused calls for Kane to leave Spurs to intensify, with some pundits insisting that it is now or never for the England captain this summer if he wants to make a big move.

Kane has arguably been in the form of his life so far this campaign but the North Londoners are on course to finish outside the top four for the second season running.

The 27-year-old picked up the Player of the Year in the London Football Awards last week but he admitted that his aim remains to win silverware with his team.

Merson believes that Kane’s words were intended to signal clubs around Europe that he wants out of North London this summer.

When asked about the Tottenham star’s statement, the former Arsenal midfielder told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (as relayed by HITC): “The way I would read into that (Kane’s words) is he wants to go.

“I saw today that Robert Lewandowski might be available.

“You are talking about the three best centre-forwards in Haaland, Kane and Lewandowski could all be up for sale this summer, in a world where there’s not a lot of money around with everything that’s happening. It will be interesting.

“People say ‘Oh, you only say it because you play for Arsenal’. But Tottenham’s a big club. A very good club. They have one of the best stadiums in the world.

“It will be his decision, at the end of the day. He has to take into consideration everything.

“He’s got to take into his consideration his wife, his kids, his family, his mum and dad. Everything. His wife’s mum and dad. I think it’s a hard decision to make.”
