Arsenal legend does not believe Spurs are in the race for fourth spot

Tottenham Hotspur have started the season off well with a win over the team with the highest summer spend in Aston Villa and a point away to the current champions, Man City.

This follows up yet another top-four Premier League season for Spurs last time out, where they fell away towards the end of the campaign but still managed to hang onto the final Champions League spot.

Mauricio Pochettino and his players will be wanting to go a step further this season by challenging for the Premier League title, as well as other trophies.

However, the likes of Man City, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool will be aiming to do exactly the same thing over the next year.

Arsenal legend, Martin Keown, implied that he does not believe Spurs will be sucked into the fourth place battle this season though.

When talking about the fourth spot being up for grabs, he mentions Arsenal, Chelsea, and United, implying that Spurs have a top-three position locked down in his mind.

He said (McDonald’s Grassroots Awards via Sky Sports): “If I was still a competitor I would be thinking that fourth place is up for grabs.

“Frank Lampard is a talented manager but he’s a novice and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t much more experienced at this level.

“From that point of view, [Unai] Emery looks a much better bet. But are the players good enough? Can he get them to be more defensively resolute?”
