Arsenal legend makes joke about Tottenham finishing in the top four

When discussing the final few fixtures in this Premier League season, Ian Wright told Glenn Hoddle he would love it if Spurs finished in the top four — but only if that means the Lilywhites would have done Arsenal a favour by beating the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

The Premier League title race this year is one of the most competitive we’ve seen in many years. Arsenal are currently top of the pile with 77 points, but Manchester City are just one point behind with a game in hand.

Liverpool are three points behind the Gunners, and are struggling for form of late, leading many to suspect they have blown their chances of being crowned champions this season.

Tottenham have their own situation to take care of, with Ange Postecoglou‘s side fighting for a place in the top four and qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Ian Wright hopes Spurs do Arsenal a favour in title race

Funnily enough, Spurs will have a huge say in the title race, one way or another. With the North London derby coming up on Sunday, Tottenham can put a dent in Arsenal’s title hopes. Postecoglou then has a chance to hurt City and Liverpool, too, with games coming up against the two teams in May.

Discussing the matter on Matchday Live on Premier League Productions, Hoddle suggested that Wright probably wants to see Spurs win those two games against City and Liverpool.

Wright replied: “If Tottenham could do us a favour, honestly… You know, I just want Tottenham to do the best they can because Tottenham deserve to be in the top four.”

Clearly joking, Wright drew a chuckle from Hoddle with his last comment.

As long as Arsenal don’t win the league, I don’t care whether Spurs finish fourth or fifth to be honest. We have to beat them on Sunday and end their hopes, that’s the main thing.
