Arsenal legend mocks Spurs defence in Cristian Romero v Ben White comparison

Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon has aimed a dig at the quality of the Tottenham Hotspur defence on social media.

Dixon, who was part of the famous Gunners backline under George Graham was responding to a post from an Argentina-focused account that used statistics to suggest that Cristian Romero is a considerably better player than Ben White.

The 57-year-old suggested tongue in cheek that Romero may have a better stat rate than White as he is having to do more work in the Spurs defence.

Tottenham’s indifferent form in recent weeks has seen their hopes of winning the FA Cup come to an abrupt end, while also suffering disappointing defeats in the Premier League to the likes of Southampton, Wolves and Burnley.

Romero moved to north London last summer on an initial loan deal from Atalanta, with Spurs set to secure his signature on a permanent basis at the end of the current campaign (Daily Mail).

Romero is a considerably better defender than White and could prove to be a relative bargain for £42.5million, considering Arsenal paid a higher amount for the England defender.

One thing Romero needs to improve upon is his marking at corner kicks, having thankfully not been punished when losing the player he was marking against both Leeds and Middlesbrough.
