Arsenal legend predicts bad news for Bissouma if Spurs sign Argentina star

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has said that Tottenham’s rumoured interest in Alexis Mac Allister does not spell good news for Yves Bissouma.

After struggling for starts in the first couple of months of the season, Bissouma got regular game time under his belt over October and November and finished the first part of the 2022-23 campaign strongly.

The midfielder will be hoping to continue from where he left off when the campaign resumes but there have been suggestions in the media over recent weeks that Antonio Conte could look to add reinforcements in central midfield in January.

One of the names mooted as a potential target for Tottenham is Mac Allister, who has impressed for Argentina at the World Cup.

L’Interista claimed last week that Spurs are one of four clubs eyeing moves of the Brighton midfielder, along with Inter Milan, Juventus and Atletico Madrid.

Campbell opined that the 23-year-old’s quality is not in doubt but suggested that his arrival could make game time even harder for Bissouma.

When asked about Tottenham’s interest in Mac Allister, the pundit told Football Insider: “He’s a really good player. There was a lot of talk about him before the World Cup anyway, but you can see what an impact he’s had on this Argentina midfield.

“He’s good on the ball, he’s smart, he’s a worker. But them signing another midfielder will make life very difficult for Yves Bissouma.

“He’s not getting into this side, and they’ve spent £25 million on him. If Mac Allister comes in, then it’ll be interesting to see what happens with Bissouma.”

The Mac Allister links make much more sense than the Sofyan Amrabat ones as the Brighton man can be deployed as a number eight if Conte opts for a 3-5-2, and arguably has more to offer going forward than some of our current midfield options. So, he might not be in direct competition with Bissouma.
