Arsenal legend praises Spurs following Crystal Palace win

There was a lot of doom and gloom around Tottenham after the first four games of the season, as the side put in mediocre displays and managed just one win before the international break.

So, Spurs desperately needed a big performance against Crystal Palace to change the mood around the club and that is exactly what they delivered.

Pochettino’s men came flying out of the blocks pushing Palace back and cutting through them at will.

The visitors were caught by surprise and had no response to the Lilywhites incisive attacking play, which saw them effectively finish the game in the first half with four goals without any response.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has raved about Tottenham’s display on Saturday and cited the intensity that they should as the main catalyst for their destruction of the Eagles.

Speaking to Match of the Day on BBC One (14/09/2019 at 11:55 pm), Wright said, “Tottenham in this game, they just shot out from the blocks. They showed their intentions, right from the start.

“Toby Alderweireld picked up the ball again [just inside his own half] and he’s got that in him [playing a ball over the top], and the run and finish from Son was fantastic.

“It’s the intensity they played with. Son, Aurier and Winks, who I thought was really good as well.

“Sissoko getting the ball into those areas that are hurting Palace. They couldn’t get near them. They were passing through the lines.

“They [Palace] were too high sometimes. Sissoko again breaking through the lines with the ball [for Spurs’ fourth goal] and once the ball goes wide, its a fantastic ball from Kane. Great goal from Lamela.”

The fact that even an Arsenal legend is heaping praise on the Spurs performance shows how good it was. For the first time in a long time, this Tottenham side started fast and didn’t take their foot off the gas until the job was done at 4-0. More of the same needed!
