Arsenal legend reveals three reasons Spurs have ‘upper hand’ against Brentford

Paul Merson has claimed the quality of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son will give Tottenham a big advantage ahead of their Premier League fixture against Brentford this week.

The Arsenal legend also mentioned that Spurs will come into the game fresher after their week off, while Brentford may concentrate more on their match against Leeds United.

Spurs welcome the Bees to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday on the back of an unexpected week’s break, after the club saw their weekend clash against Burnley called off due to adverse weather conditions.

The fixture at Turf Moor would have acted as a bounce-back match for Antonio Conte’s men, having been at the receiving end of an embarrassing 2-1 defeat to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League during the week.

Spurs will get their chance to do that against Brentford, but are going to need star forwards Kane and Son to elevate their performance levels for the visit of Thomas Frank’s side, who are currently sitting in 12th.

Both Kane and Son have endured poor stints of recent form with neither having tallied a Premier League goal since mid-October.

However, former Arsenal midfielder Merson has backed the Spurs pair to turn on the style for the encounter in North London, which will hand Conte’s side the advantage in what is expected to be a tough fixture.

In his column for Sportskeeda, Merson wrote: “Spurs had a bit of a rest the other day and will be fresh going into this game. They have a lot of class up front with Kane and Son.

“Brentford could keep one eye on their crucial game against Leeds on Saturday, and Spurs will likely hold the upper hand this week.”

Kane and Son haven’t exactly come close to the bar they set themselves last season, but they can’t lose their ability just like that. They will bounce back at some point and hit a good patch of form, but Spurs ideally need that to come quickly with a lot of fixtures coming up.
