Ian Wright does not hold back in his criticism of Tottenham Hotspur after their 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town, explaining why he has come to expect these kinds of defeats from the Lilywhites.
A huge missed opportunity for Spurs
With Manchester City having lost this week and with Chelsea and Arsenal playing each other, Tottenham had a huge opportunity to push themselves up the table.
They could not have asked for an easier fixture, with Ipswich Town still winless in the Premier League this season coming into Sunday’s game.
However, Spurs somehow conspired to hand Kieran McKenna’s side their first three points of the campaign, delivering an abject display and struggling to break down the newly promoted side.
Ian Wright is not surprised
Following their demolition of Aston Villa at home in the previous game, many would have expected Postecoglou‘s men to put four or five past Ipswich.
However, Wright insisted that this is what Tottenham do, letting you down just as you expect them to build on their momentum.
The former Arsenal man told Premier League Productions (10/11/2024) about the Lilywhites’ 2-1 loss: “This is Spurs and what they do, I don’t mean that disrespectfully. When they are in a good run and you think they can put more results together, they throw a performance like this out there.”
Difficult to argue with Wright
As much as it would hurt for Spurs fans to hear Wright talk about Tottenham in that way, the reality is that he is right.
The problem of a lack of consistency has plagued the club for a long time and Postecoglou has not managed to rectify that issue. This current team has shown that the ‘Spursy’ tag very much applies to them as well.
